3-days Morocco camel trekking tour to Erg Chegaga from Mhamid give you the opportunity to explore the longest and largest dunes in Morocco. Trekking and walking in Sahara Desert on the rhythm of camels through a beautiful and wonderful parts of the big desert.

Information :

Departure: 10:00 h from M’hamid.
Arrival: 10:30 h on the 2nd day
The price of this tour starts from 135€ / 150 US$ per person based on a group of two persons at least.
The price includes 4WD car with an English / French speaking driver/ camel ride for two hours, Sand Boarding,
1 night in Berber Camp with evening meal and breakfast, drinking water, hot drinks like tea and coffee.

When To Go? :

The period for trekking in the desert runs from first October to End of April.
October still has rather warm day-time temperatures, very pleasant evenings. Night-time lows of around freezing in December / January. But winter light conditions are beautiful, due to the low winter sun. Possibility of a light rain shower in March. The desert is in bloom and camel calves are grazing. Early April sees the arrival of higher temperatures.
EASY LEVEL : trekking time between 3-5 hours per day.

Take With You :

Equipment: Good walking shoes (not heavy) walking sandals, sleeping bags, sportswear type sweaters and parkas in winter.
Nomadic turbans are very useful.
Provide also: flashlight, Swiss army knife, matches, sunglasses, something to read, hygienic wet wipes, small plastic bags to put your toilet waste.
Do not forget the usual medicines.

What To Wear :

A long cotton scarf to wrap around your head is recommended if it is windy and the sand is blowing. You can buy a traditional Moroccan scarf. They do a great job keeping sand out of your hair, nose and eyes. It is more comfortable to wear longer pants when riding on camels. Between November and April, the desert can be very cold at night, so bring warm clothing for this time of year: sweater and jacket, hat and gloves; and in December, January and February particularly, you’ll also need warm socks, long pants and a warm coat.

Food :

Breakfast, picnic lunch, snacks, hot meal in the evening.

Guide, Cook, Camels.

Trekking Procedure :

The group travels on foot; luggage, camping equipment and supplies for the trek are transported by camel. (it is possible to ride camels during the trek).

Day 1 : M’hamid - Oued Naam

After loading your luggage on camels from our camp in M’hamid or Hotel, you start your Camel Trip from M’hamid on the edge of the desert through the beautiful desert landscapes towards Erg Chegaga dunes. After few hours riding, you stop for lunch under the shade of a tamarisk tree. Afterwards, we will be served a cup of Moroccan Mint tea, which will spur us on for the next three hours ridding until we reach Oued Naam, near where we will set up our camp for the night and have dinner under a starlit sky.

Day 2 : Oued Naam - Erg Chegaga Dunes

After breakfast, you will have an optional hour of camel ride. Afterward, you will travel with 4×4 jeeps to reach the immense dunes of Erg Chegaga. You reach an Oasis where lunch will be enjoyed under the shade of palm trees with a source of water. Then, you will join the sand dunes of Erg Chegaga. This largest group of sand dunes is at a height of 300 m on a length of 40 km. Dinner and night either under the stars or in the nomad tent in the bivouac.

Day 3 : Erg Chegaga Dunes - M’hamid

After an unforgettable sunrise upon the dunes, breakfast is served in the bivouac and this wonderful desert journey ends back with the 4×4 Jeeps in M’hamid around 10 A.M.

Honesty is the Best Policy

We were booked and had paid a deposit for a trip late March of 2020, which was canceled due to the pandemic. Said, the owner of MD, went to extraordinary lengths to refund the deposits for our travel group of six from the U.S. Apparently the Moroccan banking system is not "user friendly" when it comes to wire transfers for reasons unclear to me. Nevertheless, Said managed to refund all our money using a very creative approach. We would DEFINITELY travel with MD in the future given this level of honesty and effort; but we do hope that MD will accept credit cards rather than wires in the future. Thank You Said & Morocco Discovery!

Customer Service Under Duress

We planned our April-May 2020 trip to Morocco in the late fall of 2019 and worked with Said at Morocco Discovery. We were taking our adult children and their partners and Said was patient and added everything we wanted and more. One month prior to travel we were surprised by the pandemic, with flights cancelled, borders closed and no idea when we could travel again. Said remained as diligent, helpful and honest throughout the arduous process of refunding our downpayment. We were thrilled with Said, and his company's commitment to customer service and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone travelling to Morocco. As soon as it is safe again it is our intent to rebook with them!

A Great Experience

Three of use booked a 19-day with Moroccan Discovery Holidays for March, 2020 and paid a 50% deposit. When Morocco closed its borders due to Covid. Initially we put our trip on hold and asked Said to hold our deposit. Said agreed to this. When it appeared holiday travel would likely go on for many months we asked for a refund. Said again agreed but the Moroccan banks, being what they are, refused to release all of our deposit. With some pressure on the bank from us and Said's help we did receive 100% of our deposit.

Awesome seamless trip

From their already outstanding reviews when I started working with Sayd, this was an amazing experience. I got prompt friendly responses to every question I had and as this was our first trip to Africa I had a lot of questions. 11 Day Tour September 26 - October 6

I have to admit, when I first started looking at using a local Moroccan tour company for our trip I was very nervous. After having toured Morocco for 11 days with Morocco Discovery, I would HIGHLY recommend them without any hesitation. Said worked with me for over a year to come up with a customized trip that included everything we (2 couples) wanted to see and more. Every change I made to the itinerary was completed within hours of my request.. and I made many. Said is very prompt at responding to e-mails and questions. Having a private driver was definitely the ideal way to see Morocco. Our driver, Mohamed was amazing. From the minute he met us at the airport (with sweets to welcome us) until he dropped us off at the port for our journey to Spain, Mohamed could not do enough for us. Mohamed is funny, engaging, very knowledgeable and was totally flexible and I felt very safe at all times, even on the curvy, narrow road. If I wanted him to turn around so I could take a picture, he would…and Did!! LOL Our Riads were beautiful and the meals that were included were some of the best meals we had in Morocco. I cannot say enough about the 5* service and attention we received from Morocco Discovery and Mohamed during our trip.

Very enjoyable private tour

Mr Said provided us with a very pleasant and safe driver (Mustafa) as well as a new van, so we had a very enjoyable round trip Casablanca-Rabat-Fes- Marrakech-Casablanca. Local guides accompanied us in Fes and Marrakech, and we could have had other tours but we opted to spend more time walking around the towns. Highly efficient and cost effective tour.

Said arranged an excellent holiday for us. We began with one of the standard trips as our starting point and adapted it to better suit our needs with an added night here and there and starting in Marrakesh rather than Casablanca.
