Erg Chigaga Trek

This desert trek is definitely an experience everyone should have at least once in lifetime. It is a journey well worth the effort and you will have fond memories to last you forever.

Departure:          09:00 h from Mhamid.
Arrival:               10:30 h back to Mhamid the fourth day.
Distance:            170 km.
Means :               Camel Ride + 4x4WD.

This desert tour organization starts from two people.

Day 1: Mhamid - Oued Naam

We start our trip on the camel back to explore and discover very beautiful and wonderful parts of the big desert. We take our way towards Erg Chigaga . After about 3 hours ridding or trekking, we sit for a lunch break under a shadowy tree. After lunch, we taste a nomad cup of tea to refresh our bodies and get energy for more trekking. After another 3 hours between ridding and trekking, we set a camp in a dry river ( Oued Naam ) to spend the night with dinner in tent or under the starlit sky.

Day 2: Oued Naam - Bougern

In the morning, we start our trip in the midst of the deser. We cross a big part of the desert area (about 3 hours ridding). Later, we sit for lunch in somewhere of nowhere. After lunch meal, we continue to enjoy the superb and unusual sights. After another about 3 hours walking, we set our camp in wonderful dunes area named Bougaren . Dinner and night served under the starlit sky or in the tent.

Day 3: Bougern - Erg Chigaga dunes

After the sunrise and the morning breakfast, we carry on our trekking towards the dunes of Erg Chigaga . Before we reach this large group of dunes, lunch and a cup of tea are offered to relax and get more energy in a nice Oasis that consists of a small group of palm trees and a source of water which is running the whole year for the nomads to soak their herds and get a little water for survival. After further 15 km , we reach Chigaga dunes . You enjoy the sunset on the high dunes to taste a different world of calmness and tranquillity. We spend the night in the Berber tent in a camp. Dinner will be served with local entertainment.

Day 4: Erg Chigaga dunes - Mhamid

After enjoying the sunrise upon chigaga dunes and a Moroccan breakfast in the camp, we drive back on the 4x4 along unforgettable memories and sights. We arrive to the desert gate ( M'hamid ) around 10:00.
